The Regional Transportation Authority (RTA) Board of Directors governs the activities and future initiatives of the RTA. The RTA’s responsibilities include financial and budgetary oversight of the CTA, Metra and Pace, and addressing regional transit planning issues.The RTA Board of Directors approves an annual budget and two-year financial plan. It is also required annually to review and approve a five-year capital plan, which is a blueprint of the capital activities to be funded by the RTA and executed by the CTA, Metra, and Pace.

Qualifications

There are five (5) Cook County appointments to RTA.
Four (4) directors are to be appointed by the suburban members of the Cook County Board; one director is to be appointed by the President of the Cook County Board (from Suburban Cook County).

Composition

Sixteen (16) Board members to be composed as follows: Five (5) appointed by the Mayor of the City of Chicago; Five (5) from Cook County, as set forth above; one director each from DuPage, Kane, Lake, McHenry and Will counties who is appointed by the Chairman of their respective county board. The Chairman of the Board, its 16th member, is elected by at least 11 of the 15 appointed members.
