The Forest River Sanitary District was formed in 1963 to serve an area in unincorporated Cook County bounded by Des Plaines River Road to the east, Kensington Foundry Road to the north, Gregory Street to the south, and the SOO R.R. Line to the west with just sanitary sewage system servicing approximately 250 homes and an approximate population of 900.The sewer system (no treatment) discharges into the Metropolitan Water
Reclamation District of Greater Chicago sewer system on Kensington Foundry Road. Drinking water is provided by individual wells for each home.
