Commissioner Larry Rogers, Jr. Holds Crucial Property Tax Appeal Forum with Fellow Esteemed Thornton Township Elected Officials
Commissioner Larry Rogers, Jr. of the Cook County Board of Review, along with City of Calumet City Mayor Michelle Markiewicz-Qualkinbush, Cook County Commissioner Deborah Sims, Cook County Commissioner Joan Patricia Murphy, Village of Riverdale Mayor Deyon Dean, Village of Riverdale Trustee Tiasha D. Echols, Thornton Township Clerk Jacqueline E. Davis-Rivera, Village of South Holland Trustee Larry W. De Young, State Representative Thaddeus Jones, State Representative William Q. Davis, Clerk, of the City of Harvey Nancy L. Clark, City of Calumet City Alderman Antoine Collins, and City of Calumet City Treasurer Gerald A. Tarka will be holding a crucial property tax appeal forum. The event will be held on Saturday, November 19, 2011. The event will be held at Thornton Fractional North High School, located at 755 Pulaski Rd., Calumet City, IL. at 10:00 a.m.
The forum will consist of a presentation, where the function of the Cook County Board of Review, issues surrounding property tax assessed valuations, and the importance of filing a property tax assessment appeal will be discussed. After the presentation there will be a question and answer period, after which Board of Review staff will assist attendees with filling out assessed valuation appeal forms. Taxpayers are urged to please bring their tax bill to the event.
Commissioner Rogers launched an aggressive community outreach campaign in response to the property tax crisis that residents across many communities of Cook County have been facing. He stated that “Through unemployment or underemployment, taxpayers are simply without the means to afford exorbitant tax bills.”
The Board of Review does not assess property, set tax rates, or collect taxes. There is no fee to file an appeal, and in most cases an attorney is not necessary.
