Cook County Releases 2020 Annual Performance Report
Highlights include operational achievements and future initiatives
Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle released the 2020 Annual Performance Report developed through a collaborative effort between the Offices Under the President, separately elected officials, Cook County Health and other sister agencies. This report highlights the operational achievements of all Cook County offices and sister agencies over the last year and previews 2021 initiatives.
New this year, each separately elected office and sister agency is featured in an online version of the report that includes narratives, charts and a linked dataset of performance metrics. Ultimately, this report contains information created by each office to best tell their story in a tangible way.
“One of my goals has been to create a more transparent Cook County. Implementing annual performance reports is an example of how we are achieving that goal,” said President Preckwinkle. “I am grateful to all departments for their dedication in ensuring the public has as much information as possible about what they do, their goals and future plans to make the County a better place for all residents.”
Last August, Cook County launched performance dashboards used to track 3 to 5 key performance indicators (KPIs) for departments in addition to measuring goals and accomplishments. Departments update these dashboards on a quarterly basis and include open datasets from the Open Data Portal.
President Preckwinkle established transparency goals at the beginning of her administration as outlined in her 2011 transition report. In 2014, the Cook County Board of Commissioners approved a Performance Management Ordinance that required every office in Cook County government to track metrics and publicly report on those metrics in an annual report.
In 2019, President Preckwinkle established the Office of Research, Operations and Innovation (ROI) that oversees performance management and reporting for Cook County Government. ROI works to further empower employees to adopt performance management and a culture of continuous improvement.
