Statement from Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle on President Obama’s Executive Action on Immigration

I commend President Obama for recognizing the importance of immigration reform on millions of lives and using his executive authority to begin moving forward on this issue.

Over time, our nation has made tremendous progress in confronting inequality based on gender, race or sexual orientation. The last frontier is how we treat the undocumented.

Here in Cook County, we take great pride in the critical services we provide to all our residents, regardless of immigration status, each and every day through our health care and public safety systems.

I am pleased that President Obama has kept his commitment to act as a partner and advocate so that those who live and raise their families in our communities, and work jobs to support our country, can do so without fear of deportation.
