Cook County, IL (August 12, 2025) -- The Trump administration has announced a series of troubling plans that put more federal troops in our nation’s capitol. The administration also attacked Chicago and other municipalities for pretrial reform, vowing to reverse legislation eliminating the use of cash bail, and misstating trends in crime and violence. The claims and strategies announced are ineffective and based on lies, not facts.
City of Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson and Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle are issuing respective disaster proclamations to assist residents in recovering from flooding that took place July 25-28. The City and Cook County experienced significant rainfall over several days, leading to flooding in residential areas. The City of Chicago, Burbank, Justice and Summit were among the hardest hit Cook County municipalities.

COOK COUNTY, IL–Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle announced today 14 nonprofit organizations that will receive Cook County Arts Creative Placemaking grants, which will fund transformative, community-led art projects in suburban communities.
Recipients will receive grants ranging from $50,000 to $250,000 to lead the development of public murals, community gardens, arts centers and other projects that advance vibrant, sustainable and inclusive communities.
The Cook County Board of Commissioners approved $81,212,822 in funding this week for transportation-related projects for the County’s Department of Transportation and Highways (DoTH). These vital projects advance the construction of road and bridge improvements across Cook County to boost economic development and quality of life for residents and visitors.
Today the Cook County Board of Commissioners approved a resolution recognizing Cook County’s 2025 National Association of Counties (NACo) Achievement Awards. The County was honored with 78 national awards that highlight effective, innovative government programs which improve services for residents, advance equity and respond to critical needs across communities.
